Not gliding – Soaring
by dave on Sep.22, 2011, under Promotion
NZ Men’s grooming is becoming more costly and more confusing every day. In the wet shaving area Schillette have recently launched new ‘hardware’ in to the marketplace. Are they technological break throughs? We guess that is for the marketers to advertise and the users to decide, one thing is for sure the COST is growing faster than the hair on our chinny chin chins. Upwards of $7 a cartridge, is this good value or boarderline robbery, again only the individual users will decide. At King of Shaves we believe in fairness – great shaving products that last, for a fair and reasonable price. Do your skin and wallet a favour and come join our Kingdom.

One of our VERY well funded competitors has recently launched a new razor system in to the NZ market, spending we estimate around $1 million plus on TV ads, Press ads, Radio, Social media, price discounts and ‘we estimate’ giving away around 20,000 handles – all to get you to buy their price increased replacement blades. The other INCREDIBLY well funded competitor (who already has the most expensive replacement blades in the FMCG market) is soon to launch an even MORE expensive system razor into the market (we guess it will be around $28 for 4). Now you can call it sour grapes if you like but we ask – when is enough enough? Over the past few years we have been trying to bring DOWN the price of shaving, getting our ’Closer, Longer for Less’ message out there on a shoestring marketing budget – but to all non King of Shaves users we have to ask the big question – When will you stop being sold to and JOIN OUR KINGDOM?
Good things take time

We received a great review today from a new Azor user, which pretty much sums up alot of what we have been tring to say – change often takes time. Moving from something you have used for a long time is often difficult but can also be a good thing. Anyway, thanks for the feedback Thomas:
Sorry the review has taken so long, but I wanted to make sure I had time to formulate my opinions.
To start I would class myself as having sensitive skin.
Okay so my first impressions of the Azor 5. The razor looks impressive and the metal makes the razor feel very nicely weighted. My first shave with the razor regrettably was not as good as I expected. The razor was not gliding like other razors I had used. This I put down to the head feeling stiffer than competitors razors I however knew from past experience that it can take about 14 days for skin to adjust to a new razor.
After about a week of using the Azor 5, thankfully my opinions had changed. I had now come to appreciate that the same slight stiffness of the head that had previously annoyed me, was a potential benefit as it allowed more control of the razor against the skin.
It has now been over 14 days and I am very impressed. The razor feels very good and is easy to grip. The Azor 5 works very well in tandem with King of Shaves shaving gel. The Azor 5 had only drawn blood once in the 14 days and this was due to me being in a hurry and trying to rush the shave. I decided to put the Azor 5 to the test so I decided to shave against the direction of hair growth. I am extremely happy to report that I received a close shave, my skin was not irritated and most importantly it did not draw any blood.
The only slight downside is that it takes a week or two for the skin to adjust to the razor and the head feels slightly stiffer than competitors(this is not that bad, even with my sensitive skin it didn’t bother me that much). Overall though I am extremely happy with the Azor 5 razor.
I would give it a 9/10
Cheers Thomas H

As we head towards April 1st we think it’s no joke the amount of advertising Schillette have been doing recently. The c$90bn behemoth have been spending ‘a violent’ amount – millions of dollars both in launching &/or protecting their shavers market. TV ads, Radio, Press, handle giveaways and expensive in-store point of sale all trying to get you to ‘Upgrade’ to their expensive blades. Hard for smaller brands like us to compete? Not necessarily. King of Shaves believes in having great, well priced products and we believe in you. We are looking to convert you 1person, 1 suburb and 1 town at a time. (J)oin (o)ur (K)ingdom (e)veryone and maybe the ‘Joke’ will be on them!
A week fit for a King (of Shaves)
by dave on Mar.24, 2011, under Promotion
A bumper of a week for King of Shaves here in NZ. Our canned gel hit #1 top selling shave prep in Foodstuffs (PnS and NW) Upper N0rth Island (share where sold). A massive result when you see how much our competitors are spending on TVC’s and Radio and VERY low pricing in store! Plus we got the Azor in the hands of NZ’s PM Rt Hon John Key – so if he look’s sharp on TV you’ll know why

The inaugural ‘Legs 11’ day in NZ
by dave on Nov.12, 2010, under Promotion
November 11th marked the Queen of’s launch in to the NZ woman’s shaving market. To kick if off we renamed the day Leg’s 11 day and set about putting hundreds of Sexy, stocking covered legs all over the Auckland CBD. Our Shavesquad ‘Ninja’s’ were up at the crack of dawn putting legs up on billboards, signposts and bus shelters – directing everyone to our facebook page – ‘Queen of. NZ’
Prizes were given away if you entered the unique code found on the legs!
There was also a scavenger hunt for the ‘royal envelope’ containing a huge prize of goodies, Queen of stuff, Beautifully Delicious gifts, Sex and the City entire series, facial at Sento in Parnell. Cryptic Clues as to the location of the envelope were given out during the day and finally won this morning – well done Francessca.
We will have a video of some of the fun – up soon.
Time travel and back to the future

The news this morning was full of an article about a 1920′s black and white Chaplin movie that has – what appears to be a woman talking on a cell phone. Could be doctored, could be an illusion – could it be true? Worth a look anyway.
On the subject of anacronsims – I spotted a 1990 launched – competitors handle that has been brought ‘back to the future’, I smiled and turned up the 80′s music on my ipod
